I'm really late to this head line, but it still matters now! It will always matter! So, I have a problem, and I’m not backing down from how I feel about it. Jamel Myles, a 9-year-old from Colorado, who went to Joe Shoemaker Elementary School in Denver tragically took his own life in August 2018. Reports indicate that Jamel had recently come out as gay to his classmates and Just days into the school year, overwhelmed by the torment, Jamel Myles tragically took his own life. Jamel hung himself at home; His mom stated that he and his sister had been getting bullied at this school, and her son got it worse after he admitted he was gay. This shatters my heart into pieces I have yet to pick up. I'm a grown man, but my outlook on this world changed drastically my investigation into this unforgettable tragedy. Everyone failed Jamel! Nobody gets a pat on their backs! The mom failed, the school failed, and the parents who raised those cold blooded monsters failed! This goes against everything I stand for. This heartbreaking event underscores the devastating impact of bullying, prejudice, and the lack of support for LGBTQ+ youth. I'm calling out the school officials, and the parents who created those little monsters! No one, especially a child, should ever feel so isolated or rejected that they believe ending their life is the only option... At 9?? He was still a baby! But he was hurting that bad, his darkness could find no light- at 9 years old?! What the fuck is going on in this world?! If something like this doesn't make everybody stop and pause, I don't know what will! It's a stark reminder that as a society, we have a responsibility to create safe, loving, and accepting environments for everyone, regardless of their identity. The time to act is now—by fostering kindness, educating others, and standing up against discrimination, we can honor Jamel's memory and work to ensure no child ever feels the same pain he endured. May he rest in peace now... Rest in peace little one... Rest in peace.
